What is Sandeepa Dhar beyond an actress?

I am a bachelor in Mass Media and Advertising from St. Xavier’s College Mumbai. I am a normal Mumbai girl who takes a little while to open up. I love talking and that helps me as an actor. I love travelling too.

Your first appearance on the screen?

It was two years ago, for my first commercial for Parle-G biscuits.What was your first pay cheque like?It was Rs.15,000 and I was extremely happy as it was my ticket to the mall and I did not have to ask my parents for money.

How did you land a lead role in a Rajashri Productions?

Well, it was long process; I had to give five rounds of audition for the role. The last audition was on a Friday and I was told that the final result will be out on Monday. It was the longest weekend of my life.

Salman Khan had a cameo in the movie. How was it to meet him?

Oh! Well, it was really exciting. He is very encouraging and you learn a lot on the sets watching him perform the shoots meticulously.How do you define yourself as a person?I do believe in spirituality and in being positive and doing good Karma.

A cause that is close to your heart?

Women’s literacy. A woman who is educated can play a big role in shaping the minds of the future generation of the country.

Early career

She also has a younger sister named Akshara, who represents India nationally for Ballroom Latin dancing. Haasan studied at the Lady Andal in Chennai, until 10th grade, when she moved to Mumbai to read psychology at St Andrew’s College.

However, Haasan shifted her focus to cinema and music, and eventually travelled to the USA to continue to learn music at the Musicians Institute in California, before returning to Chennai.

Singing
Shruti Haasan sang her first song aged just six in her father’s Thevar Magan in the composition of Ilaiyaraaja. Later while pursuing her studies in school, Haasan made her singing debut in the Hindi language film, Chachi 420, singing a duet performing for the voice of a child, with her father Kamal Haasan, who also directed the film. Shruti Haasan’s second song came in Hey Ram, where she sang the bilingual versions of the title theme, Rama Rama with her father, in Hindi and in Tamil. The album from Ilayaraaja, which was critically praised, won Haasan accolades for her efforts with reviewers, Screen India praising that she “has the makings of a good singer, and with some training she should go great guns”.

Music composing
After much speculation, Shruti Haasan was confirmed as the music composer for the upcoming Tamil film Unnaipol Oruvan, with lead role played by her father Kamal Haasan who is also co-producer of the movie under Rajkamal International. The bilingual, is a remake of the successful Hindi film, A Wednesday!, but the soundtracks of both the projects are entirely separate.

Her first major professional role was in the movie Blow in 2001 as the Young Kristina Jung, playing opposite Johnny Depp. Even at the age of ten, she showed an aptitude for the screen.
